Updated Mandated Reporter Requirements
Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413 to expand the New York State Mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment or Neglect training to include protocols to reduce implicit bias in decision making processes, strategies for identifying adverse childhood experiences, and guidelines to assist in recognizing signs of abuse or maltreatment during virtual interactions. All mandated reporters, including those who previously completed earlier versions of the training, were required to complete this updated curriculum by April 1, 2025.
Subsequently, Chapter 25 of the Laws of 2024 further amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training focused on identifying signs of abuse or maltreatment in children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This requirement must be met by November 17, 2026.
Participants may either register for a two hour, asynchronous online course, a two hour, in-person synchronous course, OR a two hour, online synchronous course. At the completion of the course and after all of the required materials have been submitted, participants will have earned eligibility to receive a certificate of completion.
