WNY Collaborative for Implementing the NYS World Language Standards

WNY Collaborative for Implementing the NYS World Language Standards

Audience: World Language Teachers

Description: The new NYS world languages standards raise questions for schools: How will we approach implementation? What do the new standards mean for curriculum, instruction, and assessment? How long do we have to transition, and what changes can we start making now?

Join UB professors of languages education and your regional colleagues in forming a collaborative, professional learning community that will meet across the year to facilitate implementation of the new NYS standards. In this supportive group and with the assistance of experts, you will 1. build your sense of confidence in working with the new standards, 2. develop actionable understandings of proficiency development and development of intercultural competence, theme-based lesson and unit planning based on the revised topics, and activity and assessment design aligned with the standards, 3. create curriculum materials (a curriculum map, exemplar units, essential questions, text sets) and 4. establish a multi-year timeline and action plan for implementing the standards in your school.

The series is incremental, and participants are strongly encouraged to attend all five days.
