NYSED Numeracy Briefs: Research Foundation and Implications for Practice and Professional Learning

This workshop will provide administrators and math leaders with an introduction to the vast body of research that informed the NYSED Numeracy Briefs document. Highlighting the features and practices noted in the Briefs, we will facilitate discussion integrating the latest research on numeracy development and mathematics teaching and learning, as well as the work of Dr. Deborah Loewenberg-Ball. Participants will benefit from a synthesis of research and, in dialogue with their colleagues, will consider its implications for system-wide improvement. The session will highlight how research-based practices can inform curriculum decisions, professional learning and development, resource allocation and building capacity to scale high-impact strategies. Whether you are setting instructional priorities, designing professional development, or evaluating student outcomes, this session will provide the research foundation and leadership perspective needed to drive meaningful change in your mathematics program.

This session will be instructed by Dr. David Wilson and Mary Plumb from Buffalo State University with support from Erie 1 BOCES professional development coordinators Tricia Husul and Elizabeth Kraemer.
